FODMAP-Friendly Shopping With FoodGrader v1.4.0
If FODMAP sensitivities or severe allergies run through your household, you know that grocery shopping can turn into detective work. FoodGrader v1.4.0 ships the largest upgrade yet for people managing IBS, tree nut or shellfish allergies, and mixed diets under one roof. Here’s how to take full advantage of it.
1. Start With the Personalized Onboarding
When you create a profile (or refresh an existing one), describe symptoms or triggers instead of picking from a short checklist. The updated onboarding model understands phrases like “Low FODMAP for IBS flare-ups” or “Avoid pine nuts, walnut oil, and crab.” You can still add goals like “lower blood sugar spikes” so grades balance gut comfort and metabolic health.
2. Toggle the FODMAP Profile Switch
FODMAP detection is now its own control in the profile header. Turning it on activates a badge across scans and pushes any ingredients that commonly irritate IBS sufferers to the top of the explanation sheet. You’ll also see a banner in the scan history so you know which trips were FODMAP-safe.
3. Use the Granular Allergen Sheet
Inside every profile you can now expand Tree Nuts, Fish, Shellfish, and Sesame to the individual ingredient level. Need to avoid hazelnut but not almond? Want to block mollusks but keep flaky salmon? Flip each item independently. FoodGrader will warn you when a product contains any of the disallowed ingredients as well as possible shared-facility risks that our dataset flags.
4. Don’t Forget Vision Scanning as a Fallback
Barcodes aren’t perfect. If you run into an unrecognized item, switch to Vision Scan. Snap the nutrition panel and ingredient list and FoodGrader will parse everything, highlight the allergens it finds, and still respect your FODMAP or IBS profile. Vision scanning remains the official fallback for every scan session in case the barcode or internet fails.
5. Compare Products for the Whole Family
Once profiles are updated, use Comparison Mode to stack up snacks for multiple people at once. Select “Profile Mode” to check a single product against up to three family profiles—perfect when one child is FODMAP-sensitive and another has nut allergies. FoodGrader+ makes this instant, and during the early adopter phase the premium tools are still unlocked for free.
